Boksburg Event Printer

A Boksburg event print team needed a wider laminating machine to handle signage, backdrop panels and repeat production without slowing down at peak periods. We supplied and installed a unit sized for larger jobs, then set it up for steady day-to-day use in a busy print environment.

The brief from a busy event print shop

The client was a print shop in Boksburg handling event graphics for expos, launches and corporate functions across Gauteng. Their main issue was simple: boards and printed graphics were coming through in sizes that pushed their existing laminating setup to the limit, which meant extra handling, more joins and too much time spent reworking pieces before dispatch.

The brief asked for a wider machine that could handle event signage, backdrop panels and longer production runs with a cleaner finish. They also needed practical support on setup because their team works to short deadlines, and there is never much room for trial and error when a venue collection is booked for the next morning.

The constraints on site in Boksburg

The install had to fit into a working production area with limited floor space, normal power supply concerns and a need to keep the line moving during the day. Like many Gauteng print rooms, the site also had to plan around load-shedding, so the machine needed to be stable when power returned and not lose calibration after interruptions.

Humidity and dust control mattered too, especially for adhesive films and printed panels stored before finishing. The client wanted a machine that could handle regular use without constant adjustment, and they needed access for routine servicing rather than a unit that would sit idle if a roller needed attention.

What we supplied and set up

We supplied a wide-format cold and hot roll laminator with a working width suited to event graphics and larger panel work. The machine was configured for smooth feed control, even pressure across the rollers and dependable heat system checks for hotter finishing where required. It was also matched to the kind of print stock used for foam board covers, exhibition panels and banner-style work.

  • Working width: wide enough for event signage and larger backdrop sections
  • Cold and hot laminating capability for mixed production needs
  • Adjustable roller pressure for different film and substrate thicknesses
  • Temperature control for consistent finish on repeated runs
  • Suitable for print shops handling daily output, not just occasional jobs

Our technical team handled installation, alignment and operator handover. We also checked the drive system, verified electrical connections and made sure the rollers were clean and tracking properly before the machine went into production. The client asked for a practical setup, not a fancy one, and that is exactly what was delivered.

Installation timeline and handover

The project ran over two weeks from first discussion to final handover. In week one we confirmed the production sizes, the available floor area and the kind of media the team was using most often. In week two we completed delivery, installed the unit and carried out testing with their own stock so the staff could see how it behaved on real jobs.

Training was kept direct and hands on. We showed the operators how to load film, check pressure settings, manage heat levels and spot early signs of misfeed or roller wear. A short refresher on cleaning and daily checks was included so the team could keep the machine in good order without waiting for a service call.

Results in daily production

Once in production, the biggest change was the reduction in handling. Larger pieces could now be finished in fewer passes, which helped the team get event jobs out faster and with a cleaner final appearance. The client reported better consistency on backdrop panels and fewer marks from rework, which is what matters when a brand wall is going up in a venue and the surface has to look right under lights.

The machine also gave the shop more control over planning. They could queue bigger work with less worry about bottlenecks, and they no longer had to split as many jobs into smaller sections. That improved turnaround and made after-hours finishing less stressful, even when the schedule was tight.

  • Less manual handling on large format event pieces
  • Cleaner finish on signage and backdrop panels
  • Better output consistency across repeat jobs
  • Shorter finishing time on urgent runs
  • More predictable production planning for busy weeks

What we would carry through on a similar retail print site

If we were doing another event-print install in Boksburg, Midrand or Sandton, we would follow the same process: confirm the widest common job size first, then match the machine to the real production mix instead of chasing a machine that looks oversized on paper. That keeps the investment practical and avoids paying for capacity that never gets used.

We would also repeat the same approach to commissioning. A proper site check, on-site breakdown support if needed later, and a clear operator refresher after handover save time in the long run. For print teams working under deadline, especially when venue collections and courier cut-off times are involved, that support matters more than a sales pitch.
